About the Role – How you will Contribute to the Service:

The Halton Regional Police is a progressive Service that is stepping forward as a leader in the field of crime analysis. We are seeking a Full Time Investigative Analyst - (Criminal Intelligence) to help drive our HRPS initiatives, addressing relevant issues of criminal activity. 

As a valued member of our team, you will leverage your expertise in conducting analysis of complex datasets to extract actionable insights and to communicate finding that will directly assist criminal investigations and impact strategic decision-making processes, empowering law enforcement personnel to make informed choices and to effectively respond to emerging challenges.

Collaborating closely with our multidisciplinary units (i.e. Intelligence Bureau and other specialized units), you will provide analytical support by conducting research, collecting and collating structured and unstructured data to performing meaningful tactical and strategic level analysis to prepare various analytical products and recommend solutions to combating regional crime, major crime, and/or organized crime.

Here’s What you’ll get to do:

 

  • Monitors occurrences, trends and crime related information in and outside of Halton
  • Evaluates the reliability and relevance of information received and the Source. Extracts, sorts and analyzes pertinent and relevant information/intelligence. Disseminates information while ensuring protection of sources.
  • Applies complex statistical and spatial analytical methods to assist in identifying, current and future trends and possible causes, emerging and ongoing patterns of criminal behaviour, problem areas, persons of interest and crime/suspect, suspect/crime correlations.
  • Prepares tactical analysis reports on criminals or subjects of interest.
  • Conducts strategic analysis of major organized crime groups active in Halton Region as identified by the Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario (CISO).
  • Develops and follows protocols for the handling, grading, storing, analyzing and disseminating information received from confidential sources. Reviews and analyzes reports received from confidential sources.
  • Attends briefings with members of the Intelligence Bureau, senior management, other Police Services and agencies to provide reports, present findings or act as a resource.
  • Exchanges information with specialist bureaus, District Analysts, and Officers in other services/agencies. Analyzes details of the crimes and forwards results to Detective Sergeant or sends information to the appropriate service or specialist bureau.
  • Develops and maintains an accurate, specific and productive network of internal and external contacts.
  • Develops and maintains portal pages in both the secure and open Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) intelligence sites.
  • Develops the database structure for the Intelligence Information Management and Analysis system. Oversees the rollout of the Intelligence database. Liaises with technical experts to rectify conflicts and other issues. Provides assistance to other users as needed.
  • Creates and updates automated queries and report templates in the Intelligence database.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

What you’ll Bring to the Role:

Education, Certifications and Qualifications: 

  • Undergraduate University degree in a relevant field such as geography, statistics, mathematics or criminology etc. Certification as a Crime / Intelligence Analyst through IACA or IALEIA is an asset.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive related experience having developed a solid foundation in the tools, methods and techniques used in crime/ intelligence analysis work. Proven ability to conduct thorough research weaving together information from various sources into actionable intelligence. Applying appropriate statistical and analytical principles, methods and techniques.
  • Ability to deal with normalizing and manipulating large data sets and appropriately apply advanced level formulas/functions in Microsoft Excel. Well versed in the application of geographic information system (GIS) tools and the i2 Analysts Notebook software package.
  • Previous policing and/or enforcement experience is considered an asset.

Note: The successful applicant will need to pass a background check to the satisfaction of the Service which will include reference checks with previous employers, verification of educational achievements, and a criminal background screen.

This position is based out of our Oakville Headquarters facility which is located at the QEW and North Service Road West. 

Core Working Hours:  35 hours per week:  Monday - Friday

Salary Range: $94,271.00 to $104,745.00
